LensO
a mechanical kitchen scale
About
LensO is a mechanical kitchen scale designed with the metaphor “a kitchen scale is a lens.” Targeting users with poor eyesight, the product establishes a strong connection with its user group through this metaphor.
While individuals with poor vision often rely on thick lenses to magnify objects, LensO interprets the concept of a lens differently. Although it lacks a physical lens, its graphically enhanced interface takes inspiration from optical lenses, ensuring maximum readability and clarity for the user.
Container Bowl
One of the critical considerations in designing a kitchen scale is the container design. Users frequently add or remove ingredients to reach the exact weight. To simplify this process, the container in LensO features dual-opening side flaps, allowing ingredients to be added without fully removing the container. When detached, its angled base ensures easy pouring, preventing spills and improving user convenience.
Mechanism
The mechanism illustration demonstrates how the scale adjusts and locks at different weight ranges, ensuring stability. While working principle of the interface uses a graphic dial, where colored segments represent specific weight intervals for quick and accurate feedback. This visual hierarchy simplifies reading and enhances usability for individuals with poor eyesight.
A good metaphor creates a bridge between the familiar and the unfamiliar.
